At the Suedbahnhof Arlen Ford meets for Leland
Zivic coming on the train full of refugees from Yugoslavia.
There were literally thousands of people on that train, and
being in the Suedbanhof when it arrived was one of the most harrowing
and electrifying sights of my life, so help me God. It was like
hell on earth.
(...) But then there -- oh God, oh, God -- way down at the
front of the train, walking slowly, carrying that big red knapsack
over his shoulder and waving when he saw me ... (From the
Teeth of Angels)
Here is also where Walker Easterling discovers
his magic talents for the first time.
Stepping out of the phone booth, I looked around
and saw the Suedbahnhof standing gray and wet in the mist. I'd
go over there and take a train somewhere. (Sleeping in Flame)
Ambling down the stairs toward us was a crowd
of football rowdies dressed in the violet and white color of
the Austria Memphis soccer team. (...) With no thought at all,
none, I curled my hand into a fist with the fingers covering
the thumb. Then I put it instinctively to my chin. All of the
men were wearing long violet and white scarves. As one, the scarves
blew up onto their faces and already burning, began melting onto
their skin. (Sleeping in Flame)
